It is with a mixture of sadness and rejoicing that we announce the “home going” of our friend and colleague, Rev. Richard J. Abrams who passed away on Tuesday, April 4, following a two year battle with cancer.
Richard and his dear wife Elsie, were among the earliest pioneers of the Encounter with God Movement in Lima, Peru. Together they served for more than 30 years in Peru and Ecuador with the Christian and Missionary Alliance and in partnership with LeTourneau Ministries (the forerunner of CMI). As the Encounter movement expanded internationally, Richard served for a time as the International Coordinator of Latin America to an Encounter with God (ALED), the fraternal association of Encounter churches in Latin America.
Richard’s service, in Latin America and North America, is a tribute to his passion to see the Kingdom of God enlarged through the Encounter movement. He will be missed by many co-workers, friends and family. Please join us in praying for Elsie, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
His sufferings of the past two years are ended and he is finally “home.” In that confidence, we rejoice!
Richard will be laid to rest on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Serenity Meadows Memorial Park in Riverview, FL. Viewing at 1:30 p.m. will be followed by a funeral service at 2 pm, and burial to follow.
In addition, there will be a memorial service in Dallas, OR at 2 p.m. on April 15 at the Dallas Alliance Church.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given through the Christian and Missionary Alliance website for the financial support of the Ricardo Abrams School in Chiclayo Peru. Type “Ricardo Abrams School“ into the search section under “Give to International Workers and Special Projects.”
