Roy LeTourneau — Encounter with God visionary, ministry colleague and friend — passed away on October 15, 2014 after a lengthy battle with cancer. We mourn the loss of his presence with us here on earth and grieve with the family. At the same time, we rejoice that he is with his Savior Jesus Christ and is celebrating that final victory with his beloved wife of 62 years Shirley who preceded him in death just one year ago.
CMI Executive Director Craig Murray was privileged to see Roy twice in his final week. On the initial visit, Roy commented how blessed he was and what encouragement he received in the knowledge of the many ways God worked through him to help advance the gospel in Latin America. Though he was weak, the memories of his ministry in Latin America and with the Christian Business Men’s Committee gave him great joy in his final days.
A few days later, CMI Director Emeritus Jim Murray and Craig visited Roy for what turned out to be the last time. They shared with him a book of photos and notes from ministry colleagues from around the world. Before they parted, they had the opportunity to pray for him and express both their personal and CMI’s deep appreciation for him, for his friendship and for the vision he imparted to us for reaching the great cities of Latin America with the Gospel.
At the family’s request, CMI has set up the Roy LeTourneau Memorial Fund for anyone interested in providing a gift in his honor. Memorial gifts can be made online at http://churchministries.org/donate/roymemorial/. If you prefer to send a check, please make it out to Church Ministries International and designate it for the “Roy LeTourneau Memorial Fund.”
