Forgotten for centuries, a lost key to discipling nations is re–emerging… a focus on reaching strategic cities with the hope of the gospel.
For good or bad, cities have always dictated and driven the ideas, values and culture that shape their nations. But there was a time when an idea so powerful and a message so life-changing captured the hearts and minds of city dwellers in such a way that it transformed an entire empire.
Led by the Holy Spirit, the Apostle Paul and other early Christian missionaries focused their evangelism and discipleship almost exclusively on the influential cities of their day – cities like Ephesus, Philippi, Corinth, Thessalonica and Rome. By reaching the city, they reached the nation and ultimately the world.
What was true then is even more so today. Cities are no longer just islands of influence representing a persuasive minority. The 21st Century world is an urban one. For the first time ever, more people live in cities than in rural areas. Consequently, cities are more influential than ever before.
In Latin America, nearly 8 out of every 10 people are urbanites. This reality demands a dramatically different approach to the missionary enterprise. By God’s grace, Church Ministries International is leading a movement to revive the biblical model for discipling nations by beginning in cities of influence among people uniquely equipped to create sustainable gospel movements.
