Norte Church Overflowing

Catalytic Partnerships: Lunch with CMI teammates and colleagues from three partner churches at the 2015 MissioNexus Conference in Orlando, Florida.

This photo may look a little odd — a group of people sitting outside staring at a tent wall. Having recently returned from Ecuador, it is a scene I witnessed firsthand at the Norte Church — the newest Encounter with God Church in the capital city of Quito.

The wall is part of a huge tent serving as the temporary worship center for the church with seating for more than 400 people. Yet even in three Sunday services there is insufficient seating for everyone coming to the church. On many Sundays, additional seats must be set up outside to accommodate all those that are coming.

With more than 400 inside the tent it can get a bit warm. So the Norte leadership humorously refers to these outside seats as the “VIP Seating with Air Conditioning.”

Dimly visible through the window, Pastor Javier Silva is preaching. Javier is a powerful communicator of the gospel and each week numerous people respond by giving their lives to Christ. In fact, the church has a smaller tent just outside this one to counsel the new believers immediately and direct them into the church’s discipleship programs. More than 300 are now enrolled in the church’s intensive Bible Academy discipleship program.

The photo is further evidence of the Lord at work through our partnership together with the Encounter with God churches in Quito. When people are willing to sit outside and peek through a small tent window to hear the gospel, something significant is happening.

Your faithful prayers and support are part of what makes the reality behind pictures like this possible. So, with great appreciation we say thanks and wish you well in this new year!

In Christ,
